Zwijndrecht (Belgium), September 3th, 2019 – Agidens, the Belgian system integration company specialized in process optimization by means of consultancy, engineering, turnkey automated solutions and maintenance services, has announced the formation of a new partnership with the Alfa Laval Brewery division for the distribution of its AHOP 200 and AHOP 400 dosing modules. With its international presence, Alfa Laval will help promote and distribute the AHOP modules on a global scale into the brewery market. The partnership is valid for 3 years with possible extension of another 3 years or more. 
AHOP is a safe, controlled and automated dosing solution that increases the dry-hopping process efficiency while improving beer quality and flavor, and further augments Alfa Laval’s portfolio for dry-hopping solutions. A standard feature of the AHOP is the activation and control of the Alfa Laval IMXD mixer (Iso-Mix External Drive), guaranteeing an optimised homogenisation of the dosed hop pellets in the tank. The unique and effective combination of Agidens’ AHOP hop dosing unit and Alfa Laval’s IMXD convinced Alfa Laval to include it in their beer processing offering for small, medium and large breweries.

Dry-hopping process challenges

Kim Verschueren, team manager Process Automation, Food & Beverage and Fine Chemicals at Agidens: “A new generation of beers with a more pronounced and aromatic hop flavour is getting more and more interest from a broader beer drinking audience, led by the IPA revolution. Whilst these speciality beer volumes are increasing, the current hop-drying techniques face challenges coping with bigger volumes of hop. The current process techniques are causing brewers headaches. It is often a time consuming, beer spoiling and complex task to get all the hops in and out of the beer. Issues like blockages due to swollen hop pellets, oxygen pick-up, limited batches, cleanability and flexibility are well-known brewer’s challenges. The fully-automated solution AHOP will help to overcome these hurdles.”
